Our PFLAG NYC online gatherings have been well received, so we’re taking this opportunity to launch a new way for members of our community to come together with purpose. We’re launching a book club so that we can learn together, expand our horizons, and talk about the world we want to see on the other side of the coronavirus crisis.
The Savvy Ally by Jeannie Gainsburg
The first book we’ll read together will be The Savvy Ally by Jeannie Gainsburg. Part primer, part handbook, part call to action, the book will raise your LGBTQ+ IQ, help with conversations with all kinds of listeners, and equip you to be a daily advocate in the way that feels right to you.
The book club will meet online for four consecutive Thursday evenings — May 7, 14, 21, and 28 — from 8 to 9 p.m. to talk about the four major sections of the book, and at the final session on May 28 we’ll be joined by the author, Jeannie Gainsburg.
The book is available on Amazon (buying through this link will benefit PFLAG NYC) as a physical book or for Kindle, or you can borrow the e-book from the New York Public Library.
If you’d like to join the book club, register via our online meeting intake form we’re using for all our online meetings and select the Book Club meeting option. If you’ve registered already for a support group meeting online in March or April, you can simply send an email let us know you want to join the Book Club.
If you have any questions about the PFLAG NYC Book Club, please reach out directly to LoAn Nguyen, Program Coordinator for Support & Community Development.
