Exciting Film + Noteworthy Speakers = Excellent Friday Night

Join Us on Opening Night of 52 Tuesdays for Special Film Discussion

We’ve been thrilled by the enthusiastic response PFLAG NYC supporters have given to recent film events, and we’re very happy to tell you about another one we’ve organized in cooperation with Kino Lorber.

52 Tuesdays is the story of a mom, transitioning to male, and his relationship with his teenage daughter who is thrust into her own search for identity. Filmed over the course of a year, once a week, every week (only on Tuesdays), it brings a rare authenticity to this emotionally charged story of desire, responsibility and transformation.

The debut film of Australian director Sophie Hyde, 52 Tuesdays has been a selected film in festivals at Berlin and Sundance, where it won a Directing Award. The Village Voice makes the film a Critics’ Pick this week and calls the film “grippingly plotted and exquisitely thoughtful” and “a near masterpiece.” Read an in-depth interview with Sophie Hyde about the film and the new wave of trans cinema in Indiewire.

PFLAG NYC is offering two special opportunities to see the film this weekend:

Come to the 7:40 p.m. screening on opening night, March 27, at the Quad Cinema and join us afterwards for a conversation about the film with three distinguished guests:

  • Jack Pula, MD, a psychiatrist in private practice, is Chairperson of the Transgender Committee of the Association of Gay & Lesbian Psychiatrists and also teaches at Columbia University.
  • Dr. Katherine Rachlin, Ph.D., (Kit) is a Clinical Psychologist and gender specialist in private practice in New York City where she spends her days deep in conversation with people of all genders, lifestyles and sexualities, their parents, partners, and chosen families.
  • Chris Straayer, author of Deviant Eyes, Deviant Bodies, is a professor of Cinema Studies at New York University and a specialist in queer, transgender and GNC cinema.
  • Judy Sennesh, founder and facilitator of PFLAG NYC’s TransParents Project, will moderate the discussion.

If you can’t come Friday evening, you can see the film on Saturday or Sunday, March 28 and 29, for just $8. Simply print the coupon below and bring it to the box office at the Quad to purchase tickets.

One way or another, this is a film not to be missed. We hope to see you at it.
