Happy Lunar New Year from the API Project of PFLAG NYC!

Today is Lunar New Year, a holiday observed through many countries in East Asia and marked with many festive celebrations in Asian-American communities. In New York City, Lunar New Year will be celebrated with big parade on Saturday in Flushing, Queens, and on Sunday in Chinatown, Manhattan.

Once again, the API Project of PFLAG NYC is coming together with allies in the New York City LGBTQ Asian Pacific Islander community to show our love for our friends, neighbors, families, and communities. Join PFLAG NYC’s API Project, GAPIMNYQ-WAVE, and others in rallying for love, acceptance, and understanding in our families of all backgrounds by marching in the Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade and helping to carry our banner proudly:

You can join us in two ways. Come early to help make signs, blow up balloons, organize posters, and decorate our contingent. To do this, meet at Project Reach at 39 Eldridge St, 4th floor, at 10:00 a.m.

To join the parade itself, come to our gathering point at 11:30 a.m. We do not have our exact location yet, but you can get it by checking the Lunar New Year for All page on Facebook or following PFLAG NYC on Twitter. The parade begins at 1 p.m., but to meet up with us in the crowds, you should come as close to 11:30 a.m. as possible. Take advantage of the fact that the weather on Sunday is supposed to be a balmy 45 degrees!

We invite all who march with us to enjoy a festive Lunar New Year banquet with all the LGBTQ allied organizations. Full details will be provided at the march, so you have to come if you want to eat!

If you have any questions or want to let us know you’re coming, please send email to api@pflagnyc.org.

Everyone is welcome, no matter what your family background. Come our and show your support!
